Problem Solving:

Students are exposed to a wide variety of problems in all areas of mathematics.  They explore a variety of methods for solving and verifying both routine and non-routine problems.  In addition, they are challenged to find multiple solutions for problems and to create their own problems.

Problem Solving Strategies:

• Look for a pattern
• Guess and check
• Make and solve a simpler problem
• Work backwards
• Act it out / make a model
• Break up the problem into smaller ones and try to solve those first
• Draw a diagram or graph to illustrate the information
• Make an organized list, a table, or a chart
